Shipping containers

Used Shipping Containers for Sale

Graded second-hand stock, structurally sound and considerably cheaper than new.

A used container that has been graded properly will keep weather out for another twenty years and costs a fraction of a new one. For anything sitting in a yard, this is where most buyers should be looking.

Every unit is sold against a stated grade rather than a photograph of a different container. If a specific one matters to you, ask and we will send pictures of that one.

What to look at

Stand inside with the doors shut. Daylight at the roof seams or around the gaskets is what matters. Then the floor, for soft patches, and the hinges, for play. Surface rust on the side panels is normal on weathering steel and is not a reason to walk away.

What used stock will not do

It will not look new. Dents, patch repairs and mismatched paint are ordinary. If the container is going somewhere customers will see it, either buy one-trip or budget for a repaint.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know what condition I am getting?

Every unit is sold against a stated grade rather than a stock photograph. If a specific container matters to you, ask and we will send pictures of that one before you commit.

What should I check on a used container?

Stand inside with the doors shut. Daylight at the roof seams or around the gaskets is what matters. Then the floor for soft patches and the hinges for play. Surface rust on the panels is normal and is not a reason to reject one.

Is surface rust a problem?

Not usually. Containers are built from weathering steel, which forms a stable oxide layer that slows further corrosion rather than flaking away. That is why forty-year-old containers are still in service.

Will a used container leak?

A wind and watertight unit should not. Condensation is a separate matter: warm damp air meets a cold roof overnight and water runs down the inside. Anti-condensation coating or insulation with vents deals with it.

How long will a used container last?

A sound one kept on level bearing points will keep weather out for decades. What shortens that life is standing water, a twisted frame, or damage left unrepaired.

Inspection

Inspection standard applied to used stock: every unit is checked for door seal, floor integrity, wall and rodent holes, cross-member condition, corner post alignment and roof bow before it is graded.

Grades offered: cargo-worthy, which passes CSC inspection and is sound for ocean and rail transit; wind and watertight, which is free of leaks and holes with doors that seal, though it may carry cosmetic rust or dents; and as-is, sold in the condition received with no guarantee.
