Used 20ft Shipping Containers for Sale

The most common container we sell, in the grade most buyers actually need.

A 20ft container fits down the side of most yards without special access arrangements, holds about 1,170 cubic feet, and weighs about 4,850 lb (2,200 kg) empty. A boom truck can place one in 60 feet of clear run, which is why it is the size most buyers settle on.

Used stock is graded before it leaves. Expect a sound roof, working door seals and an intact floor, alongside dents, patch repairs and mismatched paint. Surface rust on weathering steel is normal and does not shorten the life of the container.

Who buys this combination

Used 20ft units go to buyers who have already decided on the size and are choosing on condition. If you are still weighing sizes, the size pages compare capacity and access side by side; if you are weighing grades, the condition pages explain what each one guarantees.

20ft dimensions

These are the ISO 668 figures for the size, which is why any container of this length stacks and locks with any other. Individual units vary in weight and finish.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a used 20ft container cost?

Less than one-trip and considerably less than new, with the gap widening as cosmetic condition drops. Prices move with shipping cycles and with what is coming off the water, so the figure on the product page is the current one rather than a list price.

How much can a 20ft container hold?

About 1,170 cubic feet, or roughly ten standard pallets on the floor. Internally 19 ft 4 in long, 7 ft 9 in wide and 7 ft 10 in high, with a door aperture 7 ft 8 in wide.

Is a used 20ft container watertight?

Wind and watertight stock is sound against weather. Condensation is a separate problem that affects new and used alike, and anti-condensation coating or insulation with vents is the fix.

What access do I need for a 20ft delivery?

Sixty feet of straight-line approach, a 14-foot-wide route and 15 feet of overhead clearance. A 20ft is the easiest size to place, which is part of why it is the most popular. The truck also needs a 50-foot turning radius and firm ground — concrete, asphalt, gravel or dry level dirt, on nothing steeper than a 5% grade.

Can I put a used container on my driveway?

Usually, if the surface will take the point load at four corners and the vehicle can reach it. Block paving can crack under a corner casting, so pads or sleepers are worth using.

Delivery

Delivery is quoted against the address and the access rather than the mileage, because what the truck can reach moves the price further than how far it travels. Give us the ZIP code and a description of the approach and we will confirm cost and timing.
