Frequently asked questions

Sizes, delivery, customisation and payment — the things people ask before they buy.

Questions we get asked

What sizes of shipping containers do you offer?

We offer standard 20ft and 40ft shipping containers, as well as high cube options. Custom sizes are available upon request.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we provide fast and reliable delivery across the entire United States.

Can I customize a container home?

Absolutely. We offer full customization services including interior layout, electrical, plumbing, insulation, and exterior finishes.

What is a capsule house?

A capsule house is a modern, compact living unit designed for efficiency and comfort. Perfect for vacation rentals, guest houses, or minimalist living.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, we partner with several financing providers to help make your container project affordable.

What is the difference between a standard container and a high cube?

A standard container is 8ft 6in tall on the outside; a high cube is 9ft 6in — one extra foot of interior height. On a 40ft unit that is roughly 300 additional cubic feet. The footprint is identical, so a high cube fits the same delivery space, and it is usually the right choice for stacked pallets, machinery on wheels, or any conversion where you will lose height to insulation and a floor.

What does cargo-worthy mean, and do I need it?

Cargo-worthy means the container has been inspected and certified fit to carry freight internationally, which is a stricter standard than wind and watertight. You need it only if the unit will actually be shipped. For static storage on your own site, a wind and watertight container does the same job for less money.

How much space does a 20ft container give me?

A 20ft container has internal dimensions of roughly 19ft 4in long by 7ft 8in wide by 7ft 10in high — about 1,170 cubic feet, or around 150 square feet of floor. In practical terms that is the contents of a three-bedroom house, or about ten standard pallets.

What access do you need to deliver a container?

Most deliveries use a tilt-bed truck, which slides the container off the back. That needs a firm, reasonably level approach and a clear run about twice the container length — so roughly 40ft of space for a 20ft unit. Restricted sites can be served with a crane, which we quote separately once we know the access.

Do I need planning permission for a shipping container?

For temporary storage on a commercial or industrial site, usually not. For a container used as a dwelling, a permanent structure, or anything on residential land, generally yes. Rules vary by state and municipality and the responsibility rests with the site owner, so check with your local planning authority before you order.

How long does a shipping container last?

A container in static storage use, kept on a level base with airflow underneath, will typically last 25 years or more. The two things that shorten that are standing water — which is why the base matters — and untreated damage to the paint that lets corrosion start.

Can a container be modified after it is delivered?

Yes, but it is cheaper and neater to specify doors, windows, insulation, electrics and paint while the unit is still in our yard. Cutting steel on site costs more, takes longer, and the finish is rarely as good.

What should the container sit on?

A level, well-drained base at four corners — concrete pads, railway sleepers or steel plates are all fine. Raising it slightly lets air circulate underneath and stops water sitting against the floor. Setting a container directly onto soft ground is the most common cause of doors that will not close, because the frame twists as the ground settles.

Do you deliver nationwide, and what does delivery cost?

We deliver across all fifty states. Delivery is quoted per order rather than published as a flat rate, because haulage depends on distance, site access and whether a crane is needed. You get the figure before you commit to the purchase, not afterwards.

Can I see photographs of the actual container before I buy?

Yes. Ask and we will send photographs of the specific unit, not a stock image. For a used container in particular, that is the only way to know what cosmetic condition you are getting, since surface rust and previous owner markings are normal at that grade.

How do I pay, and can I pay a deposit?

We accept bank transfer, card and Bitcoin, and approved trade accounts can order against invoice. Bitcoin payments confirm automatically once they reach the required number of blockchain confirmations. Deposits can be arranged for modified units, where the build is scheduled before the balance falls due.

What is the difference between one-trip and used?

A one-trip container has made a single loaded voyage from the factory, so it is close to new: sound paint, clean floor, doors that seal properly. A used container has been in service for years and shows it — dents, surface rust, previous markings — while remaining structurally sound and weatherproof. The price difference is usually substantial and the right choice depends entirely on whether appearance matters for your use.
