About this unit

A container in used condition — in service and structurally sound. Chosen for general cargo and secure storage. Every unit is inspected before it leaves our yard, so the grade below is what you will actually receive.

Looking for extra space without the cost and disruption of building a permanent structure? A used portable building can provide a practical solution for a workshop, site office, storage area or mobile workspace. This unit has been in service and shows normal signs of previous use, but it remains structurally sound, wind and watertight, and is inspected before leaving our yard.

Portable buildings are particularly useful when you need a secure workspace that can be installed quickly and, where suitable, relocated later. They can be configured for everything from a simple workshop or storage area to a fully fitted office or specialist work environment.

Portable Buildings for Sale

A portable building can turn an otherwise unused area into a productive workspace without requiring the same construction time or permanent commitment as a conventional building. Their robust construction makes them suitable for demanding commercial, industrial and residential applications.

Depending on your requirements, a portable building can be supplied as a basic enclosed space or modified with features such as insulation, electrical systems, lighting, ventilation, windows, workbenches and shelving.

Portable Workshops for Trades and Industry

Tradespeople and mobile work crews can benefit from having a dedicated workshop close to where the work is being carried out. Instead of repeatedly loading and unloading tools and equipment, a portable workshop provides a secure place to keep everything organized and ready to use.

Portable workshops can be suitable for:

  • Mechanics and automotive work
  • Welding and metal fabrication
  • Carpentry and woodworking
  • Plumbing and electrical work
  • Engineering projects
  • Painting and finishing work
  • Pottery and sculpture
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Construction projects
  • Mining and industrial operations
  • Agricultural operations
  • Energy and infrastructure projects

For remote or large-scale projects, mobility can be one of the biggest advantages. Instead of transporting heavy equipment back and forth to a distant workshop, the workshop can be positioned closer to the work area, subject to suitable transport and site access.

Portable Buildings for Construction and Mining

Construction, mining, agricultural, energy and transport operations often require additional workspace without wanting to construct a permanent building at every location. A portable building can provide a secure base for tools, equipment, maintenance work or project personnel.

For example, a maintenance team working on large machinery may be able to position a portable workshop closer to the equipment requiring repair. This can reduce unnecessary movement of tools and equipment between the worksite and a permanent workshop.

For larger projects, you may also want to consider our modified containers, which can be configured for specific commercial and industrial applications.

Portable Buildings for Home Offices and Workshops

Portable buildings are not limited to industrial sites. A suitably configured unit can create additional space at a residential property for a home office, hobby room, workshop, studio or storage area.

A dedicated workshop can be especially useful for homeowners who need space for tools, machinery or projects that are unsuitable for the main house. Instead of giving up valuable garage space, you can create a separate working area on your property where permitted.

Another advantage is flexibility. If the building is designed and installed for relocation, it may be possible to move it to another property later rather than starting from scratch with a new structure.

Customize Your Portable Building

One of the main advantages of a portable building is the ability to configure the space around the way you intend to use it. A basic shell can be expanded into a practical working environment with the right combination of accessories and services.

Available options can include:

  • Heavy-duty workbenches
  • Industrial shelving
  • Gantry systems
  • Loading ramps
  • Electrical installation
  • Interior and exterior lighting
  • Plumbing
  • Air conditioning
  • Heating
  • Thermal insulation
  • Ventilation
  • Wall partitions
  • Roller doors
  • Heavy-duty personnel doors
  • Emergency push-bar doors
  • Security windows
  • Retractable awnings

The best configuration depends on how the building will be used. A workshop for welding, for example, may have very different ventilation, electrical and access requirements from a home office or storage facility.

Portable Workshop or Storage Container?

A standard storage container can be an excellent choice when your main priority is secure, weather-resistant storage. A portable building or modified container is more appropriate when you need a workspace where people will regularly work inside the unit.

Think about how you will use the space. If you only need to keep tools, stock or equipment protected from the weather, basic storage may be sufficient. If people will spend several hours working inside, features such as insulation, ventilation, lighting, electrical outlets, windows and air conditioning become much more important.

Used Condition

This portable building is used and has previously been in service. It may show normal signs of its working life, including surface rust, dents, scratches and previous owner markings.

These cosmetic signs are normal for a used unit and do not necessarily affect its performance. The important considerations are its structural condition, roof, doors, seals, flooring and suitability for your intended application.

The unit is wind and watertight, with no holes, working door seals and an intact roof. Every unit is inspected before dispatch so that the condition can be assessed before it leaves our yard.

Can a Used Portable Building Be Modified?

Yes. Depending on the construction and intended application, a used portable building can be modified with additional doors, windows, insulation, electrical systems, lighting, ventilation, shelving, partitions and other accessories.

Where significant modifications are required, it is generally more efficient to specify them before delivery rather than transporting the unit to your site and carrying out extensive work afterwards.

Standards and Inspection

If a container-based structure is intended for international shipping rather than static use, its applicable certification and safety approval should be confirmed before dispatch. The International Maritime Organization's information on the Convention for Safe Containers explains the international safety framework for shipping containers.

For static portable buildings, offices and workshops, different building, electrical, fire-safety and planning requirements may apply depending on the location and intended use. Check the applicable local requirements before installation.

Delivery and Site Access

Delivery is quoted according to your location and site access rather than using a standard flat rate. The final cost can depend on transport distance, road conditions, the approach to your property and whether specialist unloading equipment is required.

Before delivery, make sure there is a suitable access route and a stable, reasonably level installation area. If the building will be used as a permanent or semi-permanent workspace, consider access for future maintenance as well as the initial delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a portable building?

A portable building is a relocatable enclosed structure that can be used for applications such as offices, workshops, storage, accommodation or specialist workspaces. It can be configured with different doors, windows, insulation, electrical systems and interior fittings.

Can a portable building be used as a workshop?

Yes. Portable buildings are commonly used as workshops for mechanics, welders, carpenters, electricians, engineers, artists and other trades. The required ventilation, electrical supply, lighting and access should be considered according to the type of work being carried out.

Can I use a portable building as a home office?

A suitably configured portable building can provide additional workspace for a home office or studio. Planning, building and electrical requirements may apply depending on your location and how the building is installed.

Can a portable workshop be moved?

Many portable buildings are designed with relocation in mind, but the ability to move a specific unit depends on its construction, dimensions, weight and handling points. Transport and lifting requirements should be assessed before relocation.

Can I add insulation and electricity?

Yes. Depending on the unit, insulation, electrical installation, lighting, ventilation, air conditioning and other services can be added to create a more comfortable and functional workspace.

What accessories can be added?

Options can include workbenches, shelving, gantry systems, ramps, lighting, electrical systems, plumbing, air conditioning, insulation, ventilation, wall partitions, roller doors, personnel doors, security windows and awnings.

Is this portable building new or used?

This unit is used and has previously been in service. Normal signs of use such as dents, surface rust and previous markings may be present. It is inspected before dispatch and is described as wind and watertight.

Is a portable building better than a storage container?

It depends on the intended use. A storage container is generally better when secure dry storage is the priority, while a portable building is more suitable when you need a usable workspace with features such as insulation, lighting, windows, electrical systems or climate control.

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery depends on the destination, access conditions, transport distance and unloading requirements. Contact us with your location and site details for a delivery quotation.

Condition

This is a used container that has been in service. It is wind and watertight — no holes, working door seals, an intact roof — but it shows its history: surface rust, dents and previous owner markings are normal and do not affect how it performs.

What it is good for

This unit is commonly used for general cargo and secure storage. Doors, windows, insulation, electrics and paint can all be added before it ships — it is cheaper and neater to specify a conversion while the container is still in our yard than to modify it on your site afterwards.

Standards and inspection

Containers intended for international shipping carry a valid safety approval plate under the Convention for Safe Containers, administered by the International Maritime Organization. Condition grades such as cargo-worthy follow the inspection criteria published by the Institute of International Container Lessors. If you need a unit for shipping rather than static storage, tell us and we will confirm its plate before dispatch.

Delivery

Delivery is quoted against your site access rather than published as a flat rate, because haulage for a container depends on the distance, the approach and whether a crane is needed. Most deliveries use a tilt-bed truck, which needs a clear and reasonably level run about twice the container length. We price it before you commit.
