About this unit
A new 500 gallon ASME propane tank finished for burial. A 5 ft 9-3/8 in riser brings the valves, gauge and fill point up to grade, so the tank is filled and read without excavating anything.
- Water capacity 500 gallons; 400 gallons usable at a full fill
- Outside diameter 37.5 in
- Overall length about 9 ft 10 in
- Empty weight about 953 lb
- Rated 250 psig
- Built to ASME Section VIII, Division 1, installed under NFPA 58
The riser length is the specification to check first, because it has to match your burial depth. Too short and the dome sits proud of the finished level; too long and it stands above the lawn. Confirm the depth your installer intends to work to before the tank ships.
A buried tank is the answer when the objection to propane is how it looks. It also sits at a steadier temperature than a tank in open air, which helps vaporisation hold up in cold weather. What it costs you is installation: an excavation, protected backfill so the coating is not damaged, and anchoring where groundwater could lift the vessel. Those requirements sit in NFPA 58, and they are not optional.
Compare against the above-ground 500 gallon tank, which is cheaper to buy and much cheaper to install. For a smaller buried vessel see the 250 gallon underground tank; for a larger one, the 1,000 gallon underground tank.
