Container types

Standard, high cube, refrigerated, open top, flat rack and side door units, grouped by what the container is built to do.

Once you have settled on a length, the type decides whether the container actually suits the job. A standard box and a high cube look identical on a delivery note and differ by a foot of headroom, which is the difference between racking that fits and racking that does not.

Everything on this page is the same steel and the same corner castings. What changes is the roof height, the door arrangement, or whether there is a refrigeration unit bolted into one end.

The types we hold

Standard containers are 8ft 6in tall externally, giving 7ft 10in inside. High cubes are 9ft 6in, giving 8ft 10in. Open tops swap the steel roof for a removable tarpaulin so a crane can load from above. Flat racks drop the sides entirely for loads that overhang. Side door and double door units change where you get in, which matters when a container is against a wall.

Refrigerated units are a different purchase

A reefer needs three-phase power and a machine that has been serviced. We sell them as cold stores far more often than for transport, and the running cost over a year usually outweighs the difference between a good unit and a cheap one. Ask what the machine hours are before you buy.
