About this unit

A container in used condition — in service and structurally sound. Chosen for general cargo and secure storage. Every unit is inspected before it leaves our yard, so the grade below is what you will actually receive.

A heavy-duty wooden shipping crate designed for transporting and storing industrial equipment, machinery, automotive components and other large items. Built with reinforced wood construction, forklift-friendly skids and a removable lid, this crate provides a practical way to protect heavy cargo during domestic freight and suitable export shipments.

Heavy Duty Wood Shipping Crate – 80" × 48" × 82"

This heavy-duty wood shipping crate measures approximately 80 inches long × 48 inches wide × 82 inches high and is designed for applications where standard cardboard or lightweight packaging does not provide enough protection.

The crate uses kiln-dried wood construction with reinforced corners, structural bracing and integrated skids. Its removable lid allows equipment to be loaded from above and inspected without dismantling the entire crate, while the raised base provides clearance for suitable forklifts and pallet-handling equipment.

Key Features

Kiln-dried wood construction: Uses kiln-dried Southern Yellow Pine or an equivalent hardwood to provide a stable structural enclosure and help reduce movement associated with moisture changes.

Reinforced corners: Heavy-duty corner blocks and additional bracing strengthen areas most likely to experience impact or handling stress.

Forklift-friendly base: Integrated flush-mounted skids provide a stable foundation and allow suitable pallet jacks or forklifts to position the crate.

Secure fastening: Hardened, coated steel ring-shank nails provide strong mechanical fastening designed to resist loosening from normal vibration and handling.

Tongue-and-groove panels: The panel construction creates a rigid enclosure with a relatively smooth exterior finish and helps maintain structural stability.

Removable lid: The gasketed lid can be removed when loading or unloading equipment, providing convenient access to the cargo.

ISPM 15 compliant: Heat-treated wood construction is intended to meet ISPM 15 requirements for applicable international shipments. Export documentation and marking requirements should be confirmed for the destination country.

Built for Heavy and Industrial Cargo

Large machinery, fabricated components and industrial equipment can be difficult to package using conventional shipping materials. This crate provides a rigid enclosure that helps protect the contents from normal handling, movement and warehouse storage conditions.

The base distributes the weight of the cargo across multiple skid runners rather than concentrating the load at a single point. The raised base also provides access for suitable handling equipment, making it easier to move the packed crate around a warehouse, loading dock or freight facility.

Vertical supports and reinforced corners help the sidewalls maintain their shape during normal handling and moderate stacking. When stacking crates, the load must be distributed correctly and the manufacturer's or shipper's applicable weight limits should be followed.

Removable Lid and Loading Access

The removable lid is designed to make packing oversized equipment more practical. Rather than requiring the cargo to pass through a small side opening, the lid can be removed to provide access from above during loading.

The lid incorporates cross supports and a gasketed design intended to help limit the entry of dust and moisture. Where additional protection is required, appropriate internal wrapping, vapor barriers, cushioning or moisture-control materials can be added based on the cargo and shipping environment.

Condition

This is a used container that has been in service. It is wind and watertight — no holes, working door seals, an intact roof — but it shows its history: surface rust, dents and previous owner markings are normal and do not affect how it performs.

What it is good for

This unit is commonly used for general cargo and secure storage. Doors, windows, insulation, electrics and paint can all be added before it ships — it is cheaper and neater to specify a conversion while the container is still in our yard than to modify it on your site afterwards.

Standards and inspection

Containers intended for international shipping carry a valid safety approval plate under the Convention for Safe Containers, administered by the International Maritime Organization. Condition grades such as cargo-worthy follow the inspection criteria published by the Institute of International Container Lessors. If you need a unit for shipping rather than static storage, tell us and we will confirm its plate before dispatch.

Delivery

Delivery is quoted against your site access rather than published as a flat rate, because haulage for a container depends on the distance, the approach and whether a crane is needed. Most deliveries use a tilt-bed truck, which needs a clear and reasonably level run about twice the container length. We price it before you commit.
