About this unit
A 250 gallon horizontal propane tank, built to ASME standards and set above ground on legs. Water capacity is 250 gallons; a full fill is 200 gallons of propane, because propane is loaded to 80% to leave room for the liquid to expand as it warms.
This is the size most houses end up with when propane does more than cook. It suits a home running two or three appliances, a workshop, or a small commercial kitchen. If you are heating a larger property or want fewer deliveries a year, the 500 gallon above ground tank is the usual next step up. Where the tank would be visible from the house, the same capacity is available as a 250 gallon underground tank.
Horizontal or vertical is worth deciding before you order. A horizontal tank sits lower and is easier to screen behind planting; the vertical version takes up less ground area, which matters on a narrow plot. Siting is governed by NFPA 58, which sets the distance a tank must keep from buildings, property lines and ignition sources — check it against your plot before committing to a position.
Delivery is quoted by distance and site access. See delivery, or talk to us about placement. More sizes on the propane tanks page.
